My Artwork

My art begins with a desire to express emotion and commune with the world around me.

I paint with watercolors or acrylic on unprimed wood panels and paper varying in size from 5” x 5” to 24” x 36”. I enjoy entering a meditative dialogue with my materials and following where they lead. I consider my work to be a collaboration with nature, as water and wood have their own pathways that I make space for, follow, and respond to. My work embraces the Japanese concept of Wabi Sabi, or beautiful imperfection.

When creating, I often seek a state of flow and freedom where the artwork is just beyond my control and I am in a true collaboration with nature. I often follow the grain of the wood and it becomes the basis of the artwork. Many of my pieces manifest as abstract landscapes, though some are rooted in realism. In my more representational pieces, I connect with a potent story or image and seek to bring it forward through my own vibrant expression.

Most of my works come to represent a quality or state of being, such as balance, strength, transition, or abundance.
